A full, thick head of hair is associated with power, sensuality, good health, and even freedom. In many ways, hair is the ultimate outward symbol of one’s identity. Unfortunately, as we age, many men and women experience hair thinning, receding hairlines, or hair loss. PRP Hair Restoration is a non-surgical treatment for patients who want a thicker, fuller hair. Hair restoration with PRP utilizes the latest advancements in technology and cosmetic medicine for a natural hair loss solution, using your body’s own Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) to stimulate hair growth and restoration. Dr. Maryann Prewitt specializes in helping you recapture the power and sense of freedom that comes with naturally voluminous hair.

What is PRP Hair Restoration?

PRP Hair Restoration is a popular hair treatment for both men and women experiencing hair loss, thinning hair, or receding hairlines. PRP treatments are noninvasive, effective, and naturally restore hair without the scarring associated with other hair loss treatments. For years, physicians have been using PRP therapy to accelerate injury healing; that same technology is now applied to skin and hair regrowth. Dr.Prewitt also employs it in her treatment of sexual health, using the P-Shot for male sexual enhancement and the O-Shot to improve the orgasmic experience for women, increase sensitivity as well as lubrication.

Because PRP is made from your own blood, it is completely safe to reintroduce to your body. Our blood is made of two main components: red blood cells and plasma. The plasma contains white blood cells and platelets, which are rich in growth factors. In PRP hair restoration, Dr. Prewitt injects the plasma directly into the scalp to stimulate hair regrowth and rejuvenation. The procedure is quick and relatively painless and we conduct it right here in our medical spa.

Benefits of PRP Hair Restoration

Androgenic alopecia (AGA)is the most common form of hair loss, affecting up to 50% of men and 21 million women in the United States alone. Androgenic alopecia is typically influenced by genetics but hair loss and thinning can also result from stress, illness, medication, hormonal changes, and environmental factors. For the many millions of people struggling with hair changes, PRP Hair Restoration provides a safe, non-surgical solution. The benefits include:

  • Natural hair restoration
  • Ideal for both men and women with thinning hair
  • Improves the appearance of hair loss and receding hairlines
  • Leaves hair thicker, fuller, and denser
  • Natural looking results with no unsightly scarring
  • Fortify existing hair against future hair loss
  • Enhance the effectiveness of hair transplants
  • Quick treatment with little to no downtime

How does PRP Hair Restoration work?

PRP Therapy works by activating the body’s growth factors, found in your platelets, to promote healing and rejuvenation. These growth factors are harvested from a simple blood sample which is then placed in a centrifuge from which the patelet-rich serum is collected. For PRP Hair Restoration, we inject that serum directly into the scalp. The scalp absorbs the PRP, allowing the growth factors to stimulate and restore your natural hair growth. The appearance of hair loss is improved and thinning hair is fortified with stronger, thicker, healthier hair.

PRP injections provide numerous health benefits and have a wide variety of therapeutic applications, including rejuvenating skin care, as well as bone, cardiac, and muscle rehabilitation. At the medical spa here at HealthWellnessMD, Dr. Prewitt employs PRP Therapy in the Vampire FaceLift for anti-aging and skin rejuvenation of the face and neck; and to enhance Sexual Wellness, using the P-Shot for men, as well as to enhance women’s sexuality using the O-Shot.

Will PRP Hair Restoration work for me?

Anyone experiencing hair loss is essentially a good candidate for PRP treatments, but those with early hair loss tend to respond best. PRP is best used for patients with androgenic alopecia, which is a genetically determined type of hair thinning that typically occurs along the top of the head. In women, this might look like a widening part with normal hair thickness at the back of the head.

For best results, consistency is key. Treatments are typically performed once a month for the first three to four months, and then every three to six months thereafter, depending on the individual patient’s response and results. Following this protocol, anticipated results can first be seen within two to three months. It’s important to keep in mind that PRP can, and should, be a part of a multifaceted program to treat hair thinning and loss.
